"In solidarity with the earthquake victims, let us offer our prayers for them and let’s have second collection this coming Sunday in all Masses including Masses on Saturday evening for their needs," Fr. Sid Marinay, chancellor of the Archdiocese of Manila, said in a statement.

"Please remit it to the accounting office as soon as possible," he added.

Earlier, Caritas Manila appealed for donations for those affected by the magnitude 7 earthquake that hit Luzon on July 27.

The social action arm of the Archdiocese of Manila said the immediate needs of the victims are the following: food packs, bottled water, hygiene kits, tents, sleeping mats, blankets, and solar lamps.

On Thursday, Caritas Philippines also launched an appeal to provide vital relief to people affected by the strong earthquake.

The “Alay Kapwa para sa Northern Luzon” fund drive aims to support efforts in addressing the immediate needs of the people.
