Four persons died, historical sites crumbled, roads were rendered impassable, other infrastructure were severely damaged, while thousands of residents found themselves too frightened to return to their homes, as a magnitude-7 earthquake rocked Luzon on Wednesday morning, July 27, 2022.
Epicenter was in Lagangilang, Abra province, but the effects of the powerful quake were felt as far as Metro Manila, which is more than 430 kilometers away.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has assured victims of the government’s quick response and assistance. He also put off an earlier decision to visit quake-stricken areas, saying that this would only take local officials’ focus in attending to the needs of the people.
In other developments, the Department of Health (DOH) has given the go-signal for the administration of boosters on those aged 50 to 59 years old, and other adults suffering from comorbities.
