BuCor to all personnel: No cellular phones while on duty

No Cellular Phone

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has warned its personnel in its seven prison facilities nationwide against bringing mobile phones while on duty.

“Carrying of cellular phone inside the BuCor premises is prohibited. This policy is strictly enforced to all BuCor employees and no one is exempted, and any violation of this directive shall be dealt with accordingly,” BuCor said.

“This is in compliance with the instruction of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla on the prohibition of entry of cellular phones in the Bureau of Corrections, duly reiterated by our Director General Gerald Q. Bantag,” it said.

Last July 18, Secretary Remulla visited the New Bilibid Prison and BuCor, both in Muntinlupa City.

“Tayo muna ay magsakripisyo. Wala muna gagamit ng cellphone sa trabaho (Let’s make the sacrifice. Don’t use cellphones while working),” Remulla said during the meeting.

Last Monday, July 25, BuCor’s Intelligence Investigation Division (IID) conducted a surprised inspection at the NBP.

“During the inspection, one personnel was discovered to have sneaked-in a cellular phone inside the BuCor’s office despite series of Memoranda on the said prohibition, thus an administrative charge was immediately commenced following proper procedure on the filing of administrative cases to personnel of BuCor,” it said.

Aside from NBP, the other prison facilities of BuCor are the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City, the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF), Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan, San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF) in Zamboanga, Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro, and the Leyte Regional Prison (LRP).
