2 NPAs nabbed for extorting goods from businesswoman in Cagayan


PIAT, Cagayan – Police arrested two suspected members of the New People's Army (NPA) for extorting goods and cash from a businesswoman here Saturday, July 23.

The suspects were identified as “Benigno,” 18, and “Mario,” 21, residents of Barangay Minanga, this town.

Investigation showed that the suspects approached the victim “Beth,” of Poblacion 2 here, and introduced themselves as communist guerrillas.

They demanded P20,000 cash, assorted groceries, and one sack of rice. The suspects warned the victim that they will burn her poultry farm in Tuao, this province, if she does not grant their demands.

Beth reported the extortion attempt to the local police. Lawmen led by Police Chief Master Sgt. Rodolfo Anguluan planned an entrapment operation then proceeded to Barangay Santo Domingo here where the handover would take place.

The suspects were arrested and recovered from them were the boodle money and a motorcycle without a license plate.
