Cagayan municipal vice mayor, 3 others charged with murder


GATTARAN, Cagayan – Vice Mayor Matthew Nolasco here and three others have been charged with murder in connection with the killing of a businessman last December.

Information gathered from the Cagayan Provincial Information Office stated that Nolasco and companions Joles Salvatierra, Jofel Alipio, and Mateo de Torres were accused of murdering Jefferson Torricer of Gattaran and Penarrubia, Abra.

The case was filed by the Office of Cagayan Provincial Prosecutor Ronnel Nicolas before the Regional Trial Court in Aparri, Cagayan.

The Provincial Prosecutor’s Office stated that Nolasco and his associates were behind the killing of Torricer on December 5, 2021 inside the Veranda Resto Bar in Barangay Magapit, Lal-lo, this province.

Citing witnesses and investigation, it said Alipio, Salvatierra, and De Torres held Torricer against the wall of the establishment, enabling Nolasco to point a gun at the victim’s chin and shoot him, killing Torricer on the spot.

No bail was recommended by the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor for the accused.

Nolasco was the mayor of Gattaran when the incident happened.
