College of St. Benilde guns for a tournament sweep of the NCAA women’s volleyball when it tackles Arellano in Game 2 of their best-of-three finals series Friday at The Arena in San Juan City.
Match is at 2 p.m. with the Lady Blazers staking their 10-game winning streak in a bid to return to the championship helm for the first time since winning it in the 2015-2016 season.
Coach Jerry Yee eyes another straight set victory similar to their 25-21, 25-11, 25-10 Game 1 triumph last Wednesday where they needed only 62 minutes in dispatching the Lady Chiefs.
“I know fans want it to be exciting, want it na five sets, pero trabaho lang ng coach na gawing one-side yung game. Kasi kapag ginawa pang exciting yung laro, magkakaroon lang ng momentum yung kalaban,” said Yee.
Yee will continue pinning his hopes on his lean squad composed of Gayle Pascual, Michelle Gamit and Mycah Go, as well as setters Cloanne Mondonedo and Chenae Basarte.
Mondonedo and Basarte were responsible for orchestrating smart plays for their spikers, finishing with a combined 25 sets in Game 1.
For four-peat-seeking Arellano, it would be about rising to the challenge and finding the antidote on how to destroy the sturdy wall put up by St. Benilde.
Coach Obet Javier will continue to rely on Carla Donato, Cess Bello, Charmina Dino and Pauline De Guzman to keep on firing shots at the Lady Blazers, praying that this time, their offense would work.
But the Lady Chiefs need to double their efforts, particularly in their net and floor defense after managing only two blocks and 29 digs.
A victory for Arellano would extend the series, with Game 3, if necessary, scheduled on Sunday.
