Gunrunner apprehended in Iloilo City


ILOILO CITY – A gunrunner who tried to sell an unlicensed .45 caliber pistol to an undercover cop was arrested in Iloilo City on Monday afternoon, July 18.

The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) identified the suspected gunrunner as Jieben Amodia Villanueva, 28, originally from Alimodian town but is temporarily residing in the city.

Villanueva was caught in an undercover operation in the City Proper District as he tried to sell a pistol, with two magazines and two ammunition for P12,000.

The ICPO-Intelligence Unit and ICPO-Police Station 6 have placed the suspect under surveillance after receiving information that he had been peddling unlicensed guns.

Villanueva is now facing a case in violation of Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo, director of Police Regional Office (PRO-6), lauded the ICPO cops.

Dongbo said the operation is an example of a proactive approach in the campaign against loose firearms.
