Cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms may persist in some parts of the country in the next 24 hours due to the prevalence of the southwest monsoon or “habagat,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, July 18.
Habagat rains may affect Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Masbate, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Visayas.
PAGASA advised those in these areas to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides caused by “moderate to at times heavy rains.”
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA also warned the public against flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by sudden heavy rains, lightning, thunder, gusty winds, and sometimes hail.
