JBC names nominees to vacant posts in CA, CTA


The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has submitted to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. its 13 nominees to two vacant associate justice posts in the Court of Appeals (CA) and 10 nominees to a vacant post in the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA).

The two vacant posts in the CA were those left with the retirement of Associate Justices Gabriel T. Ingles and Edgardo A. Camello last February 27 and May 19, respectively.

Nominated were Selma Palacio Alaras, Snooky Maria Ana Cauan Barno Sagayo, Amado Paolo Calinog Dimayuga, Corazon Gonzale Ferrer Flores, Gener Malaluan Gito, , Wilhelmina Bago Jorge Wagan, Robert Victor Consunji Marcon,  J. Ermin Ernest Louie Ramirez Miguel, Rosalyn Dagami Mislos Loja, Acerey Castanares Pacheco, Josefina Eco Siscar, Romeo Dizon Tagra, and Rowena Nieves Adena Tan.

To be filled up in the CTA is the post vacated by Associate Justice Juanito C. Castaneda who retired last June 24.

Nominated to the vacant CTA post were Marlon Miranda Agaceta, Selma Palacio Alaras, Lyn Chua Ebora Cacha, Corazon Gonzales Ferrer Flores, Juliet Marquez Manalo San Gaspar, Robert Victor Consunji Marcon, J. Ermin Ernest Louie Ramirez Miguel, Romeo Dizon Tagra, Mark Anthony Pizarro Tamayo, and Rowena Nieves Adena Tan.

Most of those nominated in the CA and CTA vacant posts are trial court judges.

The JBC’s transmittal letter on its nominees was dated last July 8.  The letter was posted on the JBC website last July 15.

The letter was signed by Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo as ex officio chairperson of JBC; Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla, ex officio member; and Jose Catral Mendoza, Toribio E. Ilao Jr., Noel Gimenez Tijam and Franklin J. Demonteverde as members.

The JBC is the constitutional office that accepts, screens and nominates appointments in the judiciary. Under the Constitution, the President has 90 days to fill up a vacant post.
