Viral 'ulirang tita' to fellow aunts and uncles: Be present in kids' milestones

BACOOR CITY, Cavite – A young aunt is once again making the rounds online for her humorous posts on supporting her nephew's academic milestones.

In 2021, Annel Ramones went viral for attending the virtual recognition of her nephew, Louis Miguel Ramones, clad in an elegant black outfit with matching shades and a wide-brimmed hat.

The post, which Ramones hashtagged #UlirangTitaAward (model aunt award) got over 222,000 haha reactions on Facebook.

"'Yung dad nya kasi, nurse, naka duty, and then yung mom ko naman may appointment, so sa akin lang hinabilin yung pamangkin ko (His dad, a nurse, was on duty, and then my mom had an appointment, so they asked me to look after my nephew)," Ramones told the Manila Bulletin about attending the Zoom recognition rites.

On June 28 this year, Ramones once again supported her nephew in style – complete with a bodyguard for the pictorial.

"Naisipan ko mag-sequel kasi sobrang sakto na grade six na siya, tapos graduation naman (I thought of doing a sequel because coincidentally, he was in grade six and it was his graduation)," Ramones said.

A few days after the virtual graduation, Ramones earned more haha reactions for celebrating her nephew's graduation in a mall in Bacoor.

In her post on July 10, Ramones and her nephew posed for pictures while eating in a food court sporting their online graduation outfits. They also had security guards standing right behind them.

According to the 23-year-old senior graphic designer, her posts are all in good fun.

"Naturally shy kasi 'yung pamangkin ko at saka tahimik lang, so 'nung nag-viral kaming dalawa, talagang naaliw naman din siya (My nephew is naturally shy and quiet, so when we went viral, he was so amused)," Ramones said.

But jokes aside, Ramones says she is truly proud to witness her nephew's achievements.

"Nakakatuwa din kasi masubaybayan yung paglaki ng pamangkin mo, from learning ABCs hanggang sa pag-enter nila ng high school! (It really feels good to see your nephew grow up, from learning ABCs to entering high school)," she shared.

"Siguro para sa ating mga tito at tita, dapat lagi tayong present sa mga milestone ng buhay nila... Kung baga tayo talaga ang tumatayong pangalawang parents nila, pero cool version lang (For us, aunts and uncles, we should always be present in their milestones. We are like their second parents, we are the cooler version)."
