Young voter registrants aiming to vote in the coming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections formed long lines outside the local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office located inside the municipal hall of Binangonan, Rizal since the registration opened on Monday, July 4.

Local government security personnel manning the queue at the municipal grounds told Manila Bulletin that since July 4, the lobby of the municipal hall has been filled with registrants who came as early as 6 a.m.

Siblings Jeremy, 15, and Christian Lacambra, 19, lined-up at 9 a.m. at the ground floor lobby. At around 3 p.m. they were twenty persons behind the others.

They both said that joining the line of future voters for the SK election has its rewards not only for themselves but also for the community where they reside in.

The younger Lacambra told Manila Bulletin that he is looking forward to vote in the coming SK election in order to practice his right to choose the person who will represent the youth in their village.

Just like Jeremy, Christian also said that he hopes to see a better community without crime or a drug addict and that the person who will represent the youth, through the SK, will also focus on the well-being of his fellow teenagers.

Sixteen-year old Fritze Aprecio and his friends Matt Amoroso, 18, and Harry Unida, 17, said it was okay for them to join the long line because their decision to register would finally pay-off as they will soon be able to exercise their right to vote once their names are included in the list of registered voters.

Unida said he would use his right as a voter to choose an SK leader who has a vision in helping the village leaders in solving issues on garbage in their community.

Upon approval of their registration, the Lacambras, Aprecio, Amoroso, and Unida, along with all the registered voters who are 15 to 17 years old on or before December 5, 2022, may vote in the SK election.

Regular voters who are 18 and above will participate in the barangay election to be held on December 5.
