Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has given up his seat in the powerful Commission on Appointments (CA) for Senator Christopher “Bong” Go.

Gatchalian disclosed the matter during an interview on Wednesday, explaining that membership in the CA is based on the political parties of a senator.

Go is a member of the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino -Laban (PDP-Laban) of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Gatchalian, on the other hand, is a member of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).

“There’s a seat allocated for me being an NPC member. The allocation in CA is per party so as NPC member, I was allocated one, but I gave up my seat to Senator Bong Go because he requested if he can get the full three-year term,” Gatchalian said.

Other NPC senators in the Senate include Senators Loren Legarda and Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito.

However, incoming Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri has yet to disclose the CA membership.

Zubiri earlier disclosed he had two separate meetings with the group of senators who were supposed to support the Senate leadership bid of Sen. Cynthia Villar and the group led by Sen. Loren Legarda.

Among the issues they have to thresh out include the composition of the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET).
