Comelec receives 4,200 applications in first day of voter registration in Eastern Visayas

TACLOBAN CITY – Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) applicants swamped the first day of the resumption of voter registration by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in preparation for the barangay and SK elections in December.

Comelec-Eastern Visayas (Region 8) was able to process a total of 4,200 applications on Monday, July 4.

SK applicants aged 15 to 17-years-old had the most number of applicants with 2,330 applications processed.

Applications for new registration for 18 to 30-years-old is at 583 while third is the transfer from another city or municipality with 580.

Comelec-Region 8 Director Jose Nick Mendros encourages the qualified registrants to register early and not wait for the deadline since there is only a three-week registration period.

"To avoid last-minute rush and crowd, all those qualified must visit their local Comelec office as early as possible,” Mendros advised.

Election offices nationwide are open to receive applications from Mondays to Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mendros said that their office is open on holidays.

The registration period will end July 23.
