2 village chairs gunned down, stabbed dead in Eastern Visayas

TACLOBAN CITY – Two barangay chairmen were killed in separate incidents in Eastern Visayas Wednesday, July 6.

Police identified the victims as Rolando Buyoc, chairman of Barangay Seguinon, Albuera, Leyte, and Roberto Yapan, chairman of Barangay Julita, Biliran, Biliran.

Buyoc, 56, was shot dead by two unidentified gunmen in Barangay Seguinon.

Initial investigation disclosed that the victim was on his way home onboard his multicab when he was shot by the motorcycle-riding suspects.

Buyoc sustained a bullet wound in the head. He was taken by the Albuera Rescue Team to OSPA-Farmers’ Medical Center in Ormoc City where he died.

Albuera police have conducted hot pursuit operations and alerted adjacent units to conduct dragnet operations for the possible arrest of the suspects.

Yapan was allegedly stabbed dead at around 6 p.m. by Jene Balce, 36, a construction worker and resident of Barangay Julita. The victim was taken to the Biliran Provincial Hospital in Biliran where he was declared dead.

Initial investigation disclosed that the motive for the killing is personal grudge. Police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspect.
