The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has issued a Show Cause Order against a bus company following a vehicular accident in Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental on July 5.
The bus accident, owned by the Vallacar Transit Inc., resulted in the injuries of some passengers.
LTFRB Chairperson Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil stressed that bus owners of public utility vehicles have the duty and responsibility to employ all means necessary to ensure safety in its daily operations for the benefit of the riding public.
“The untoward incident in Dumaguete City was something that should not be simply ignored or condoned,” said Garafil.
“The operation of public transportation is imbued with public interest and is a mere privilege bestowed by the government to the grantees. Operators are to provide the highest form of safety and convenience to the passengers. Road safety should at all times be observe,” she added.
In the Shoe Cause Order, the bus company was asked to explain why its CPC (Certificate of Public Convenience) should not be cancelled or suspended.
The LTFRB set the hearing of the case on July 19.
