Members of the Northern Police District (NPD) Anti-Carnapping Unit (DACU) arrested Tuesday morning, July 5, a man who allegedly stole a motorcycle in Barangay 175, Caloocan City on Monday, July 4.

Maj. Jessie Misal, DACU chief, identified the suspect as Joshua Andrada, 26, a resident of Brgy. 175, Camarin, Caloocan City.

DACU operatives immediately conducted a follow-up operation after the victim, Norbin Nuguera, 46, asked for their help, claiming that the suspect stole his motorcycle on Ilang-ilang Street in Brgy. 175.

Based on their investigation, the DACU said that Andrada rented the victim’s motorcycle which he used in going home to Manila City on Monday morning.

On the same day, the suspect called the victim to pick him up at Blumentritt, Manila at around 10:00 a.m. to go back to Caloocan.

Upon reaching Ilang-ilang Street, the suspect invited the victim to grab a snack in a store.

Police said that Andrade suddenly took the victim’s motorcycle key which was placed on a table and fled on board the vehicle.

Nuguera tried to chase Andrade, but the suspect successfully escaped.

During the follow-up operation, the DACU spotted the suspect while driving the stolen motorcycle along Ilang-ilang St. at around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Andrade was arrested after he was positively identified by the victim.

The police recovered the victim’s gray Honda motorcycle.

The suspect will be charged for violation of Republic Act 10883 or the New Anti-Carnapping Law of 2016, police said.
