Senate majority bloc to support bills that will revive PH economy

The Senate majority bloc held its first of a series of meetings on how to their handle legislative agenda this coming 19th Congress and the selection of Senate officials.

This was disclosed today July 5 by incoming Senate President Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri to Senate reporters on his meeting with senators at an undisclosed place.

One of those who attended the meeting was Senator Cynthia A. Villar.

Villar’s withdrawal from her bid for the Senate presidency allowed Zubiri to be the probable Senate President when all senators meet for the 19th Congress and elect their officials on July 25.

Also in the group was Senator Imee Marcos, elder sister of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

The top positions up for grabs at the opening of the regular session are Senate President, Senate President Pro Tempore, Senate Majority Leader and Senate Minority Leader.

Chairmen or chairwomen of various Senate committees will be voted on later on.

‘’Its was a very productive meeting at nagka-isa kami na suportahan ang mga panukala na kailangan ng ating Bansa para ma ibalik ang sigla ng ekonomiya, ibaba ang presyo ng bilihin at palakasin ang sector ng Edukasyon para sa mga Kabataan (...we are one in supporting measures that are needed by the country in order to revive the economy, reduce prices of commodities and strengthen the education sector for the young),’’ Zubiri said.

This was just the first batch, he explained.
