Mactan-Cebu Airport serves 1.6 M passengers from January to May


CEBU CITY – The Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) is poised to bounce back from meager arrivals in 2021 as travel restrictions have eased.

Latest figures from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) showed that the MCIA is starting to get busy as it has already accommodated 1,609,122 passengers from domestic and international flights in the first five months of 2022, breaking the figure last year when it only welcomed 1.3 million passengers.

The total arrivals in the first five months of this year are 329 percent than the same period last year with 374,841 passengers due to Covid-related restrictions.

Domestic passengers accounted for the highest number of foot traffic in MCIA as 1.4 million of the 1.6 million passengers that passed through the airport between January to May were bound for and from local destinations, compared to the first five months of 2021 when there were only 330,476 domestic passengers who passed through MCIA.

MCIA also recorded more international passengers this year with 128,618 arrivals, a 190 percent increase compared to last year with only 44, 365 arrivals.

The Mactan airport also registered growth in terms of air traffic and cargo as it served a total of 15,828 flights for local and international destinations, 161 percent higher compared to the same period last year when only 6,058 flights were served.
