Magnitude 4.5 quake hits Sorsogon — Phivolcs

(PHIVOLCS)

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake was detected in Sorsogon province at around 3:56 a.m., Sunday, July 3, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs traced the epicenter of the earthquake at 9 kilometers (km) northeast of Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon and was shallow at a depth of 10 km.

It was felt as a “weak” tremor at Intensity III in Prieto Diaz.

Meanwhile, it was “slightly felt” at Intensity II in Legazpi City, Albay.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.

However, it does not expect damage or aftershocks because of this earthquake.
