Northern Samar governor lauds law creating UEP campuses in 3 towns

TACLOBAN CITY – Northern Samar Gov. Edwin Ongchuan has welcomed the law creating University of Eastern Philippines campuses in Allen, Victoria, and Lavezares.

Authored by Northern Samar Rep. Paul Daza, Republic Act (RA) No. 11860 – An Act Establishing the UEP-Allen, UEP-Victoria, and UEP-Lavezares Campuses – authorizes the offering of short-term technical-vocational as well as undergraduate and graduate courses to as many students in the area.

The law mandates the three campuses to undertake research and extension services, just as the other UEP campuses engage in these services.

The law was passed by the House of Representatives on Nov. 25, 2020 and the Senate on Jan. 31, 2022.

The bill lapsed into law on June 4, 2022, without the signature of President Duterte, in accordance with Article Vl, Section 27 (1) of the Constitution.

“This latest development in education is crucial to be able to respond to the human resources development needs of the province,” Ongchuan said.

"With the growing economy comes also the need to capacitate our fellow Nortehanons in the different fields of industry, which UEP, as the sole State university in Northern Samar, must be able to provide in the long term, to support the development of the province," Ongchuan added.
