The Busan Metropolitan City is aiming to host the World Expo 2030 at the Busan North Port in October, 2030.

Supported by the Korean government, Busan plans to host the World Expo 2030 under the theme “Transforming Our World, Navigating toward a Better Future.”

Its three sub-themes include sustainable living planet, technology for humanity, and platform for sharing and caring.

Busan, the second largest city of South Korea, played several key roles in the development of the country particularly in being an engine of growth even after the ruins of the Korean war, for its transportation and tourism infrastructures, as well as for being the epicenter of K-Culture.

Hosting the World Expo 2030 will also serve as an opportunity to exhibit Korea’s capacity as an economic powerhouse built on smart innovation to a global audience.

The bidding committee for World EXPO 2030 Busan was formed in July last year.

In May, the new administration has selected World EXPO 2030 Busan as a National Policy Task.

Other countries which are making a similar bid are Italy, Ukraine, and Saudi Arabia.

The final winner is expected to be announced in November 2023.

The World Expo event is considered as one of the world’s top three mega events along with the World Cup and Olympics.
