Duterte has officially passed the torch to his successor, Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., who took his oath as the 17th Philippine President at the National Museum before noon.

For his last morning as the country's leader, Duterte entered Malacañang at 9:18 a.m. and waited for the arrival of Marcos Jr. there.

The two supposedly held a short meeting for 10 minutes. After this, the two went to the Kalayaan Grounds in Malacañang for the departure honors for Duterte around 10:40 a.m.

Duterte also took his final stroll around the Kalayaan Grounds before shaking the hands of his successor and exiting Malacañang, the place he called home for the past six years.

"Salamat sa tropa (I thank the troops). Thank you for the honor, and I will remember it forever," Duterte said after his departure honors.

Most of Duterte's Cabinet secretaries were also present for his final morning in Malacañang, including outgoing National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr., who said the former Davao City Mayor would not be attending Marcos Jr.'s inauguration.

Hermogenes said Duterte would go straight to Davao City via a commercial flight.
