Ang Probinsyano lauds lapsing into law of Solo Parents' Welfare Act

The Ang Probinsyano Party-list has lauded the lapsing into law of Republic Act (RA) 11861, better known as the Solo Parent's Welfare Act.

Rep. Alfred Delos Santos (congress.gov.ph)

“Natutuwa po ako na naisabatas na ang Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act. Matagal din naming trinabaho ito sa kongreso. Malapit po ang batas na ito sa aking puso dahil ako po ay maagang naulila sa ama. Ang aking ina ay isang solo parent na itinaguyod kaming limang magkakapatid (I am elated that after going through a lot of Congress hearings, Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act is finally a law. This is close to my heart because I lost my father early on. My mother singularly took care of her five children)," said Ang Probinsyano Party-list Rep. Alfred Delos Santos in a statement on Thursday, June 30.

"Kaya ramdam ko po ang hirap ng isang magulang na mag-isang kumakayod at kumakalinga sa kanyang pamilya. Ang batas na ito ay alay namin sa milyun-milyong solo parents nating kababayan (I have experienced and felt the hardships of a solo parent taking on the cudgels and responsibilities on her family. This law is dedicated to millions of Filipino solo parents)," he added.

RA 11861 is a consolidation of two bills from both Chambers of Congress: House Bill (HB) 8097 and Senate Bill (SB) 1411.

As per the online archive of the Congress, Delos Santos is a principal author of the House equivalent of the measure which lapsed into law last June 4, 2022.
