Tropical depression Caloy will likely to exit the country’s area of responsibility within 24 hours, but may continue to enhance the effect of the southwest monsoon or “habagat” that could bring light to heavy rainfall over the western portion of Luzon in the next three days.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) estimated the location of Caloy at 375 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales as of 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 29.

It has maintained its maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said that moderate to heavy monsoon rains may prevail over Palawan, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Laguna.

Light to moderate with, at times, heavy rains may also affect Metro Manila, Marinduque, Romblon, Rizal, Tarlac, Pampanga, Aurora, Quezon, Ilocos Region, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas.

“In the next three days, the southwest monsoon will prevail over the western section of Northern and Central Luzon. Over Metro Manila, the southwest monsoon will prevail in the next two days, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms,” Ordinario said.

“Under these conditions, scattered flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazards maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA said.

According to PAGASA-Weather Division OIC Jun Galang, “there is a good chance that there will be light to moderate rains on Thursday, June 30,” during the inauguration of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

However, Galang said the weather may temporarily improve in the metropolis between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., based on the latest forecast, but that scenario may still change depending on the track of tropical depression Caloy.

Ordinario also pointed out the possibility of the formation of another low pressure area northeast of Luzon in the next 24 to 48 hours.

This potential weather disturbance could also enhance the habagat and induce more rains.
