Italy crushes Slovenia in VNL


Italy swept Slovenia, 25-19, 25-16, 25-21, Saturday night in Week 2 of the Volleyball Nations League Men’s Leg at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Alessandro Michieletto steered the Italians with 16 points off 13 kills, two blocks and one ace while Daniele Lavia added 14 points including 12 attacks.

It was Italy’s fifth win in seven outings to improve to 16 points.

Gianluca Galassi and Simone Anzani also shone for the Italians with a combined 14 points, even as Yuri Romano and Giulio Pinali teamed up for 11 points.

Italy showed its dominance over the Slovenians in attacks, 49-33, as well as in service aces, 6-0.

Ziga Stern and Rok Mozik scored 12 and 11 points for Slovenia, which slipped to a 3-4 win-loss record for nine points.

The Italians will close out its Week 2 campaign Sunday when it clashes with China at 7 p.m., while the Slovenians collide with Japan at 3 p.m.
