7 nabbed for illegal cockfighting in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY – Seven persons were arrested for alleged involvement in illegal cockfighting or “tupada” in Purok Seaside, Barangay Tangub here Friday, June 24.

Police Major Joery Puerto, head of Police Station 8, said they received a report that an illegal cockfighting activity was being held in the barangay celebrating a fiesta.The Bacolod City Mobile Patrol Unit proceeded to the area and caught seven men in the act of engaging in illegal cockfighting.

Police recovered from them two fighting cocks, two gaffs or “tari,” and P30,000 believed to be bet money.

They failed to get a permit to allow them to hold such activity or gathering, Puerto said. They also failed to observe health protocols such as the observance of social distancing and wearing of face masks amid the pandemic.

The seven men are detained at Police Station 8.
