One of the most prominent cartoonists in the Philippines today, Manix Abrera, will be having an online workshop on Saturday, June 25, to help aspiring comic creators level up their illustration skills.

The visual artist, known for his Kikomachine Komix, a long-running strip released in the newspaper daily, as well as News Hardcore weekly webcomic, will be sharing his techniques, some tips in the craft, and tales from his colorful career in the event, for free.

Further, Manix will teach how to design characters for comics.

The webinar will be on Zoom. It will also be aired live on the Metropolitan Museum of Manila (M)’s Facebook page. Sign language will be available in the simulcast.

Participants will also revisit some of the famous characters by national artist for visual art Larry Alcala, whose work has inspired and influenced Manix and an entire generation of Filipino illustrators.

Parents, guardians, and siblings are encouraged to learn alongside young participants.

M Online Studio Series is the regular online offering of workshops, training, and capacity-building sessions hosted by the museum. This month, the focus is on comics and cartoons, which form part of the rich heritage of Philippine visual arts.
