The global hit Korean series “Squid Game” has reentered Netflix’s weekly Global Top 10 chart for the most watched shows and films.
This after Netflix officially announced season 2 and a reality competition of “Squid Game.”
“Squid Game” season 1 was released on Netflix in September last year starring Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-joon, Jung Ho-yeon, O Yeong-su, Heo Sung-tae, Anupam Tripathi, and Kim Joo-ryoung.
The show became the most popular series on Netflix, garnering 1.65 billion views in the first 28 days on the platform.
On Netflix’s Global Top 10 for June 13 to 19, “Squid Game” reentered the chart for non-English shows, placing 10th with 7.48 million hours viewed for the period. This is the Korean series’ 20th week in the top 10.

In announcing season 2 of “Squid Game” on June 13, director, writer and producer Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed the characters who will be back in season 2.
“It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As the writer, director, and producer of ‘Squid Game,’ a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show,” he said in a letter.
He said Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, and the Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun, will return.
“The man in the suit with ddakji [played by Gong Yoo] might be back. You’ll also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend [the giant doll], Cheol-su,” the director added.
Netflix also announced the reality competition series “Squid Game: The Challenge” wherein 456 players will compete for a prize of $4.56 million.
“As they compete through a series of games inspired by the original show – plus surprising new additions – their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them. The stakes are high, but in this game the worst fate is going home empty-handed,” according to Netflix.
