Slovenia overcomes Argentina for third win in VNL


Slovenia overcame a third-set stumble as it bested Argentina, 25-20, 27-29, 25-18, 25-17, Thursday night in Week 2 of the Volleyball Nations League Men’s Leg at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Slovenians squandered a 24-20 set-point advantage to lose the second frame but regained their composure in the next two to even their win-loss record at 3-3 for nine points.

Skipper Tine Urnaut fired 17 kills for 19 points to banner Slovenia, while Rok Mozic chipped in 17 points off 13 attacks, three blocks and one ace.

The Slovenians exposed the Argentineans’ erratic plays as early as the first set when it pulled away from a 20-19 lead to 23-19 before sealing the set in their favor.

Overall, Argentina gave up 38 points on errors despite putting up a strong fight on the defensive end with 10 blocks.

Argentina absorbed its fifth defeat in six outings for four points despite the efforts of Luciano Vicentin, Agustin Loser, Bruno Lima and Ezequiel Palacios, who scored in double figures.

Vicentin finished with 13 points, while Loser, Bruno and Palacios scored 12 points each.
