According to Philippine Consul General Elmer Cato, Mayor Jim Kenney expressed his condolences to Laylo’s family and apologized for the “terrible” tragedy.

“The Consulate was told a $20,000 reward is being offered for information that would lead to the arrest of the shooter. The Consulate later met with [Laylo’s mother] to tell her about the outcome of the discussions with Mayor Kenney,” Cato said in a statement via CNN Philippines.

Kenney also assured that “justice will be served” on the case.

Laylo, 35, of Makati City, was on his way to the airport with his mother to catch their flight to Chicago when the vehicle they were riding in was suddenly fired at.

One out of the six bullets hit Laylo in the head.
