Several Filipinos die in New Zealand highway collision


Seven people, some of them Filipinos, have died in a crash in New Zealand on Sunday, June 19.

In a report by Stuff news, the family of seven was on their way home when the van they were riding in hit a truck on State Highway 1 between Blenheim and Picton at around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The report said an infant was among the victims in the crash. The number of Filipino fatalities was not mentioned.

Two other relatives were brought to the hospital, while the truck driver suffered minor injuries, it added.

In a Facebook post, Philippine Ambassador to New Zealand Jesus "Gary" Domingo extended his sympathies to the victims' relatives.

"Our condolences and prayers for our kababayan who perished in Picton," he wrote.

He assured that the Philippine Embassy and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office will extend assistance to the victims’ families.
