Arellano turns back Lyceum for solo second


Arellano recovered from a tight first-set loss and turned back Lyceum, 27-29, 25-20, 25-15, 25-18, Tuesday to gain solo second in NCAA women’s volleyball at the Paco Arena in Manila.

Trina Abay stepped up on the defensive end with five blocks to finish with 16 points as the Lady Chiefs hiked their win-loss tally to 3-1 behind pacesetter College of St. Benilde.

Princess Bello also shone for Arellano by pouring all her 15 markers on spikes, while Nicole Sasuman and Carla Donato chipped in 10 points apiece.

After falling short in the opening frame, the Lady Chiefs adjusted with their offense and wore down the Lady Pirates.

They actually outhustled Lyceum on attacks, 48-38.

Arellano also took advantage of Lyceum’s erratic plays by converting 42 points on errors.

Arellano’s win overshadowed the efforts of Janeth Tulang and Johna Dolorito, who finished 19 and 11 points for Lyceum.

The Lady Pirates evened their win-loss record to 2-2.
