CAMP OLIVAS, City of San Fernando, Pampanga – Two members of the communist terrorist group (CTG) voluntarily surrendered one after the other on Tuesday (June 14) and Wednesday (June 15) on separate locations.
In Aurora, ‘Ka Jojo,’ 50, surrendered to the authorities on Wednesday, according to Col. Julio Lizardo, provincial director of the Aurora Provincial Office.
Colonel Lizardo said the Philippine National Police and other concerned agencies facilitated the voluntary surrender of ‘Ka Jojo,’ a resident of Brgy. Calabuanan, Baler, Aurora.
‘Ka Jojo’ was a former political guide for Sandatahang Yunit Platoon (SYP) 2, Platoon Central of Bagong Hukbong Bayan under Aurora Provincial Committee (PCOM).
Ka Jojo also turned over a .38 revolver with two live ammunition.
Police Regional Office 3 Director Brigadier General Matthew P. Baccay said that the former rebel returned to the fold of law as he wanted to be reunited with his family.
The top cop of Central Luzon added that the PRO-Region 3, together with all member agencies of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC) in Region 3 will continue the whole sector approach against communist terrorist to achieve peace and national unity.
Earlier, another CTG member identified as Rudy Umalio, 56, a resident of Sitio Papalang, Brgy. Camandag, Ambaguio, surrendered to Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Police on June 14.
A report from the office Col. Ranser Evasco, director of Provincial Police Office - Nueva Vizcaya, the CTG member surrendered through the concerted efforts and negotiations made by Ambaguio Police personnel, 1st Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Mobile Force Company and the Philippine Army’s 86 Infantry Battalion.
Umalio revealed that he was recruited by certain Ka Freddie of CNT group led by Ka Juancho with more or less 60 members operating in the area of Ifugao and Nueva Vizcaya sometime in 1985.
He finished his one year combat training in Barangay Camandag to become a full-fledged member.
After his training, he joined an anti-government armed encounter conducted by the said group led by Ka Freddie in the following areas: Bolog, Lamut, Ifugao- January 1986; Pieza, Villaverde, Nueva Vizcaya - February 1986; Baguingey, Kiangan, Ifugao-March 1986, Kiangan Municipal Hall, Kiangan, Ifugao.
