Man arrested for possession of gun, grenade in Caloocan


A man was arrested after operatives of the Northern Police District (NPD) found and confiscated a gun and a grenade in his house in Caloocan City Sunday morning, June 12.

The NPD identified the suspect as Salmero Cartago, 43, a resident of Barangay 73, Samson Road, Caloocan City.

Members of the Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS) went to Cartago’s house at around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, to implement a search warrant against the suspect for violation of Republic Act (RA) 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition and Regulation Act issued on June 10, 2022 by Caloocan City Regional Trial Court Branch 130 Executive Judge Raymundo Vallega.

During the search, police found in his house one homemade .380-caliber pistol, four live bullets, and a grenade wrapped in black electrical tape.

The suspect is now under police custody while the confiscated grenade was turned over to the Station Explosive and Canine Unit (SECU) for safekeeping.

He will be charged for violation of RA 10591 and Section 3 of the RA 9516 (Unlawful Possession of Explosive), police said.
