Bulusan erupts anew; more areas affected


LEGAZPI CITY, Albay -- Mount Bulusan in Sorsogon had another phreatic eruption Sunday, June 12, and this time, more areas were affected, according to the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) Bicol.

Gremil Naz, OCD Bicol spokesperson, said that nine barangays in Juban, Sorsogon were affected by ashfall when Bulusan belched ash at around 3:37 a.m. that lasted for at least 17 minutes.

These barangays were Puting Sapa, Añog, Buraburan, Rangas, Bacolod, Sipaya, Calateo, Catanusan, and Maalo.

Naz added that ashfall was also reported in some barangays in Casiguran and in Magallanes, both in Sorsogon.

In Juban, 103 families or 338 individuals have been evacuated as of Sunday morning while 37 individuals were also evacuated in Bulusan, according to Naz.

Personnel from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Philippine Army are now conducting cleanup of the major roads in affected towns.

Meanwhile the Juban Municipal Police Station (MPS) have advised residents to keep away from going out from their residences to avoid respiratory ailments.
