Father, 2 sons dead as truck rams tricycle in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY – A father and his two sons died while three others were injured when the tricycle they were riding in was rammed by a truck Friday, June 10, in New Lucena, Iloilo.

In a spot report, the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) identified the fatalities as 33-year-old Angelito Somblingo, tricycle driver, and his sons 12-year-old Angelo Somblingo and 11-year-old Lance Somblingo, all residents of Sta. Barbara, Iloilo.

They were declared dead on arrival at the Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Pototan.

Injured were 48-year-old Hilda Somblingo, 20-year-old Mark Somblingo, and 10-year-old Shane Tumampil Gedoria.

Initial investigation by the New Lucena police said the Somblingos and their companions were onboard a tricycle when a 10-wheel truck hit them near the boundary road of New Lucena and Pototan before dawn. Due to the impact, the tricycle driver and all the passengers were thrown to the ground.

Truck driver Jimmy Santos, 37, is currently detained at the New Lucena Police Station.
