240 gun ban violators arrested by police in Western Visayas

ILOILO CITY – Police have arrested 240 gun ban violators across Western Visayas or Region 6 as the election period ended last Wednesday, June 8.

“The arrests are the product of our close coordination and strong collaboration with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP),” said Police Brig. Gen. Flynn Dongbo, director of the Police Regional Office-6.

Police Lt. Col. Arnel Solis, PRO-6 spokesperson, said the number of gun ban violators in this year’s elections is lower by 25 percent or 80 fewer persons arrested compared to the 2019 election period when 320 persons were caught.

Based on localities, Negros Occidental had the highest number of gun ban violators with 80, followed by Iloilo with 42, 28 in Aklan, 26 in Antique, 24 in this city, 20 in Bacolod City, 12 in Capiz, and eight in Guimaras.

Seized from them were not only assorted firearms but also bladed weapons.
