Terrafirma shocks TNT; Purefoods unbeaten after Day 1


Terrafirma stunned Leg 1 champion TNT, 21-17, to end the day with a 2-0 record in the second leg of the PBA 3x3 third conference held Saturday, May 28 at Robinsons Place in Las Pinas City.

Shaq Alanes scored eight points while Jeremiah Taladua scored the clinching basket as Terrafirma dealt Pool A favorite TNT a stinging setback at the early part of the leg.

Alanes, Taladua, Jebb Bulawan and Red Cachuela earlier beat Sista, 19-17.

Also unbeaten is Purefoods, which likewise posted back-to-back wins in Pool C.

Joseph Eriobu, Val Acuna, Jun Bonsubre and Jed Mendoza prevailed over Cavitex, 18-16, before getting past Master Sardines, 21-16.

First leg runner-up Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and Platinum Karaoke won their opening assignments in their respective pools.

Ginebra’s Mikey Cabahug, Denice Villamor, Martin Gozum and Leo de Vera edged Limitless, 21-20, in Pool B while Platinum’s Chris de Chavez, Yutien Andrada, Hyram Bagatsing and Ael Banal defeated Zamboanga Valientes, 21-13, in Pool D.

Platinum was supposed to face Meralco later in the day, but league officials decided to reschedule the final three games for Sunday due to issues surrounding the 3x3 flooring.

Limitless’ Jorey Napoles, Reymar Caduyac, Nico Salva and Simon Camacho bounced back to beat San Miguel Beer, 21-12, to stay in contention for a quarters berth.

Second conference champion Pioneer Pro Tibay also stayed alive with an 18-17 overtime win over Cavitex for a 1-1 record in Pool C.

The top two teams in each of the four pools will advance to the quarterfinals also slated Sunday.
