After four years, Social Media Superstar Anne Curtis is set to make a major comeback to the concert scene via the much-awaited show “LUV-ANNE: The Comeback” at the Newport Performing Arts Theater at Resorts World Manila on June 11.
Anne, 37, said she’s very excited to do the show, although she admitted she’s a bit nervous because she hasn’t performed for quite some time.
“Finally coming out of hibernation and very, very excited pero medyo kinakabahan din ako kasi it’s been so long since I last performed. Siguro mga four years and two years naman since I’ve done anything with the entertainment industry. A lot of you know now that I’m a full-time mom for the past two years,” said Anne during a Zoom with the entertainment press to promote her upcoming concert recently.
“LUV-ANNE” will be a totally different show from her previous concerts, she said. “What’s different about ‘LUV-ANNE’ is it’s a little bit more intimate than the other concerts given the venue, and of course given the current situation din kasi. Since it’s intimate, it’s like a reunion amongst my followers, my friends and family, that I haven’t seen in a long time. So it really has a more personal touch to it kaya sobrang excited.”
She’s also proud of her voice now after taking some voice lessons.
“Ang isa pang bago rito ay well-rested ang boses ko ngayon. Hindi siya pagod. So yung voice ko may konting improvement kahit papaano,” Anne said. “Mas marami akong pasabog in a way na nagmature na ang style. Hindi naman mawawala ang biritan dyan. I must say na nakapahinga talaga ang voice ko, gumanda! I won’t say sobrang ganda pero may improvement. I was able to take voice lessons again to prepare for this.”
The concert also features a stellar team: at the helm is director Paolo Valenciano with creative direction by Teacher Georcelle Dapat-Sy, and the musical direction of maestro Louie Ocampo.
“One of the great things about LUV-ANNE was originally it was supposed to be a digital concert. So what we had in my mind we were able to transition into a live performance. So just imagine the ideas and concept behind that. Alongside we have the two top stylists in the country Liz Uy and Anne Quinones collaborating. So may mga palaban din kaming costumes. I’ve also missed dressing up so much. So aside from an amazing production, there’s a fashion show as always,” Anne said.
In 2012, Anne debuted her blockbuster concert, “AnneBisyosa: No Other Concert.” Her two other successful solo concerts were “AnneKapal: The Forbidden Concert” (2014) and “AnneKulit: Promise Last Na ‘To (2018, The 21st Anniversary Concert). These three concerts were staged at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.
Aside from performing, Anne also takes the role of a concert producer. “It’s not the first time (I co-produced a concert). My last concert ‘Anne-Kulit,’ I was the producer then. So it’s not the first time naman. I think that’s what the pandemic has done. I was able to open different businesses. So the business side of me is growing even more. So we’re also behind the stage. So nakaka-excite to work alongside my Viva family. It goes to show that we go beyond just a management team, we’re also as partners.”
“The truth is lagi akong nagde-decide na sige ituloy natin, (then) huwag muna hindi pa pala ako ready. Parang it was concept-battle within me na parang ang tagal ng pinitch sa akin ito ng Viva. Pagdating ko pa lang which is a year ago, tapos ngayon lang siya matutuloy. Halimbawa biglang dadami yung cases, natakot ako, I have a baby. It was a lot of preparations for me being able to be ready to be on the stage again.
“What’s great about this concert is that it’s a kick-off party for a comeback. Parang eto na, ready na, to start working again, to go about my passions again which is of course acting. So I think this is a great way to kick off a comeback,” Anne also said.
Asked about her guests in the show, Anne said: “A lot of new faces na hindi ko pa nakaka-duet. Yun ang dapat abangan. That’s something new we’re bringing to people. Guests na hindi ko pa nakakasama.”
Anne said that she’s inspired by the title of her concert “LUV-ANNE,” which sounds like “laban” (or to fight).
“That is actually the meaning of the concert talaga. Palaban. Eto na nga and we’re coming back full force. I’ve done band rehearsals with Sir Louie and he said it’s been two years since his band performed. So lahat talaga had made adjustments, even the dancers. Sabi nila this is their first concert again after two years. Parang lahat kami kaya ba natin ito, so kami laban lang! It has become an inspiration, the tagline laban. It’s not just the title of the concert, and it’s what driving all of us to really like we can do this. I think all of us have become rusty. Even our staff. Kasi parang ngayon lang nabubuhay uli and people are moving forward. So eto palaban na kami,” she said.
- Showbiz comeback
Last May 28, Anne finally returned to the popular noontime program, “It’s Showtime.” Anne revealed that she has been preparing so much for her showbiz comeback.
“For several months now, I’ve preparing and doing dance rehearsals at least twice or thrice a week, just to get the movement of my body again. I’ve been doing band rehearsals, and I’ve been taking voice lessons. I’m really preparing myself because, after two years of being a mom, the most singing that I was doing was nursery rhymes. I just needed the kick-start, even the dancing, para lumambot uli yung katawan. Viva has been sending me scripts. When we will shoot that, we’re still trying to figure that out because we’re still dealing with the pandemic. So may mga konting adjustments that we’re figuring out along the way, but at least the prep time is already there. I’ve been reading scripts and probably take acting workshops again. I’m really prepping in the different fields.”
Despite her busy schedule, Anne is still able to squeeze in tender moments with her daughter Dahlia via quick video calls. Those calls give Anne the spark of energy to give it her all during rehearsals.
Anne is still a big hit on social media, even if she was away from the limelight for two years. Just recently, she celebrated her 18 million followers on Instagram.
“Nakakatuwa lang na even If I’m not this active sa social media or even sa entertainment career ko, I’m still grateful that I still have this following who are supporting me so maraming salamat talaga. May mga new followers din so nadadagdagan pa. And to my followers since Day 1, binabasa ko yung mga comments. Yung iba nga dun dalawang dekada na. Nakakatuwa lang na we’ve all grown up together. Some are mothers now. Thank you so much,” Anne said.
