The group issued the statement a day after the proclamation of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Vice-President-elect Sara Duterte.

“We officially congratulate Bongbong Marcos Jr. as the next president of the Republic of the Philippines,” read the statement.

Caritas said it will particularly support all of the administration’s programs that will respect the rights and dignity of the Filipino people, honor the rule of law and history, make government more accountable to its people.

With their post-election accountability program, the group also said that it will hold Marcos and all elected officials “liable of all their election promises.”

“In all that is to come, we pray that his administration will be guided by justice, inspired by the people who elected him, and fueled by true patriotism,” Caritas said.
