Benguet slay suspect arrested in Manila


BAGUIO CITY -- The number 8 most wanted person in Benguet province who went into hiding in Manila after killing his drinking buddy in 2021 in La Trinidad town in Benguet has been arrested.

Personnel of the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station, in coordination with the Eastern District Intelligence Unit, arrested John Dela Torre Miranda, 24, construction worker and resident of Barangay Santo Christo, Bukid area, Caloocan City.

By using an Alternative Record Device (ARD) during the operation, the operatives were able to arrest the suspect on May 24.

Judge Isagani Gomez Calderon, of Branch 8, Regional Trial Court, La Trinidad, Benguet issued the warrant of arrest against the suspect for the crime of homicide committed on August 1, 2021 in Shilan, La Trinidad, Benguet.

Based on the record, the suspect and the victim, together with other friends, were having a drinking session inside their temporary billeting area when they engaged in heated exchange of argument.

One of the suspects, Russel Pria, allegedly threw stones at the victim. The victim woke up to approach Pria but Miranda stabbed him in the chest.

The victim was rushed to Benguet General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

The suspects escaped after the incident.
