Special polls in Tubaran, Lanao Sur 'highly successful," says Comelec


An official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) described Tuesday's special polls in Tubaran, Lanao del Sur as "highly successful."

In a press briefing, Wednesday, May 25, Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said no untoward incident occured and none of the vote counting machines (VCMs) malfunctioned.

'We were so successful yesterday. No untoward incident, no violence reported...no VCM glitch," he said.

Garcia revealed that the winning candidates for mayor, vice mayor and provincial board members were already proclaimed.

He said the certificate of canvass from Lanao del Sur was already transmitted earlier that day.

"We want to thank all agencies that helped us...for the special eldctions yesterday to be highly successful," said Garcia.

The poll body on May 11 declared failure of elections in 12 barangays in Tubaran due to violence, threats and intimidation.
