Blacklist International and Sibol MLBB head coach Kristoffer “Bon Chan” Ricaplaza never doubted that his squad, despite having two rookies in the lineup, can deliver against the powerhouse crew of Indonesia which was composed of players from the RRQ Hoshi and Onic Esport – the top 2 teams in MPL Indonesia in the past two seasons.
And there was a certain reason why the champion coach believed so.
While Indonesia looked formidable on paper with its star-studded cast handpicked from their best teams, Bon Chan felt that there was a missing piece to the squad which convinced him that the team was not invincible and that their chances were way higher from the 10 percent some people initially perceived.
“Although all-star yung Indo lineup, may isang kulang sa lineup nila which is yung natural na mage nila. Parang napilitan lang nilang ipasok si Sanz sa mage,” Bon Chan commented.
Sanz naturally plays as a jungler but was placed in the midlane position in their SEA Games lineup. The ploy was reminiscent of the move also done by Filipino teams where they put former jungler players – Jaylord “Hatred” Gonzales for Onic Philippines and Salic “Hadji” Imam for Blacklist – as their midlane supports.
“Nakita natin na jungler si Sanz pero sobrang dalang nyang mag mage so yun siguro yung naging butas nila,” he added.
Both RRQ and Onic Esports midlaners Clay and Drian respectively were not in Indonesia’s SEA Game lineup.
With that in mind, the Sibol MLBB team slowly dissected and broke the Indonesian code as the PH bets also received a huge lift from its two rookies Kyle “Dominic” Soto and Howard “Owl” Gonzales who held their own against Indonesia’s much seasoned veterans.
“‘Di ko alam kung saan nakuha ni Dogie ‘yun pero siguro hirap na hirap sila manalo sa Indo, eh kami no idea kami kung paano maglaro yung Indonesia kaya siguro na nag assume siya na sobrang lakas ng Indo na 10 percent lang yung chance namin,” Bon Chan said
“Pero nung nakalaban namin kahit first time lang namin makalaban and ‘yung dalawang rookie pa yung lumaro, talagang kayang kaya naman.”
