Zubiri sees hastened canvassing of votes after Leni, Isko lawyers accept results of May polls

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri on Tuesday (May 24) sees a hastened congressional canvass after lawyers of Vice President Leni Robredo and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso manifested that they would no longer object to the results of the May 9, 2022 presidential election.

This, according to Zubiri, ‘’would definitely hasten our proceedings (at the National Board of Canvassers which is composed of the Senate and House of Representatives panels).’’

‘’We thank their graciousness as well as their patriotism in this time where we need the nation to heal from the very emotionally charged election of 2022,’’ he said.

Zubiri won as a re-electionist under the UniTeam of presumptive President Ferdinand ‘’Bongbong’’ R. Marcos Jr. and presumptive Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio.

In his brief speech this morning at the opening of the joint session of the Senate and the Lower House to canvass the votes cast and proclaim the winners of the May 9, 2022 presidential and vice presidential elections, Zubiri said he is ‘’certain that the results of the canvass of this joint public session, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers for the positions of President and Vice-President of the Republic, will mirror the initial results generated by the Comelec (Commission on Elections) transparency server.’’

‘’It is my fervent hope that our proceedings will go about smoothly and that we will finish our Constitutionally mandated tasks as quickly as possible. We owe this to the public. We owe this to the Filipino people,’’ he added.
