DAVAO CITY – Out-going Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said that she has considered no other place but Davao City as the venue for her inauguration as vice president.
The presumptive vice president said she plans to have her oath-taking at the San Pedro Street, fronting the decades-old City Hall of Davao, where the city’s major activities like Araw ng Dabaw and Kadayawan sa Davao are held.
Duterte said her team has yet to finalize the details of the planned oath-taking ceremony in Davao tentatively set for June 19, pending her proclamation as winner in the vice-presidential race by the Congress.
She said the city is instrumental in shaping her up as a public servant.
“We considered no other places, except for Davao, because Dabawenyos helped me and taught me so many things, and made me the public servant that I am today. I want to give that honor to Dabawenyos who will witness my oath-taking,” she said.
Duterte served as vice mayor from 2007 to 2010, mayor from 2010 until 2013, elected as mayor in 2016 when her father ran for President, and was reelected in 2019 with youngest brother Sebastian as the vice mayor.
The incumbent mayor did not reveal as of yet the personalities who will attend the historic event here in the city, without the proclamation of winners for president and vice president.
She added that her team has yet to send out the invitations.
“It’s difficult to send out invitations without the details. So, hopefully we get that proclamation so that we can get the ball rolling for the oath taking and transition,” she said.
She clarified that what will happen on June 19 will just be the oath-taking and that she will officially assume the position on June 30 when the term of office of Vice President Leni Robredo ends.
“They (Congress) will declare the winner, and we are waiting for that but while we are waiting for that we have created a transition team, so that once we get the proclamation, they will start reaching out to the transition team of the Office of the Vice President,” she said.
