BI strengthening Mindanao border crossing

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is upgrading its border crossing stations in Mindanao to control the entry of illegal aliens and members of terrorist groups.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said the Taganak station near the Sulu Sea, and the Bongao station in Celebes Sea have been identified as priority areas in IT and infrastructure improvement projects.

BI bay service chief Alnazib Decampong said It is necessary to strengthen immigration monitoring activities in these areas which are fast becoming major trade and travel hubs.

Decampong added that strengthening the BI offices will also improve the inspection measures to prevent the possible entry of illegal aliens and foreign terrorists.

Morente also said they will deploy more personnel in in these areas to strictly enforce immigration rules and regulations, and expand the advance passenger information system (APIS)
