Barangay chairman in Cagayan shot dead

TUAO, Cagayan – A barangay chairman who was driving a motorcycle with a back-rider was shot dead on Tuesday (May 24) morning by unidentified assailants who were also riding on motorcycle in Barangay Bicok this town.

The Cagayan Provincial Police identified the victim as Dante Blanza, 61, barangay chairman of Sto. Tomas, in Tuao town.

His back-rider, Eduardo Montorio, 61, and barangay councilor in the same barangay, was unharmed in the gun attack.

According to the police probers, Blanza and his kagawad were on board a motorcycle and were going to the Department of Agriculture office at Tuao west.

Upon reaching the barangay road in Bicok, two unidentified gunmen on board a motorcycle suddenly overtook them and fired a shot towards them.

The barangay chairman was hit on the chest. He was rushed to St. Paul Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Dragnet operation was still going on for the possible arrest of the suspects.
