The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said it is ready to conduct special polls if the House of Representatives declares a vacancy in the post of Cavite 7th District Rep. Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla.

"Whatever Congress decides, the Comelec is so prepared to conduct special election in that particular district," Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said in a press briefing Monday, May 23.

"We will wait for Congress. If Congress will say we will fill up the position so conduct a special election, we will conduct the special election," he added.

However, Garcia said, Congress usually just appoint a caretaker so that the concerns of the district will be taken care of.

There are reports that Remulla will be appointed as Department of Justice chief by presumptive president Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
