Robin Padilla proclaimed 'senator-elect,' quotes Eric Clapton classic


Actor-turned-politician Robin Padilla, who was proclaimed senator-elect, Wednesday, elicited cheers, closing his speech with a line culled from the Eric Clapton classic, "Wonderful Tonight:" "It's late in the evening, I feel wonderful tonight..."

Note that he performed the song extensively during campaign sorties.

He thanked both Muslims and Christians for his win, deeming it "symbolic" of "unity."

Robin also gave a salute to Senator Bong Go, whom he addressed as "idol," noting "wala ako dito kung hindi dahil din sa iyo."

Robin also thanked the Catholic Church, The Iglesia Ni Cristo, Apollo Quiboloy, Mike Velarde.

Present at the ceremony with him is brother Rommel Padilla, and close friend, Philip Salvador, among others.

Robin, who ran under the ruling PDP-Laban, received the most number of votes (26,612,434) based on the latest partial and official vote count by the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC).
