13 passengers rescued from burning boat in Tawi Tawi

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Thirteen passengers were rescued by government troops from a burning boat in waters off Mantabuan and Banaran Islands in Sapa Sapa, Tawi Tawi on Sunday.

The Western Mindanao Command identified the rescued passengers as Sukarno Maring, 72; Nelso Tayting, 50; Nenyang Tayting, 45; Sitti Selfa Maring, 37; Nurfaiza Maring, 31; Salizada Maring, 27; Ridwan Maring, 21; Hudayfi Maring, 14; Toing Tayting, 16; Ubayda Maring, 4; Alagib Tayting, 1; Nursaliha Tayting, 2; and Rosita Maring, 6.

Thanks to immediate response from a fire rescue team composed of crew from the 82nd Marine Corps based in Brgy. Batu Batu in Panglima Sugala municipality, no casualty was reported.

The survivors were brought to Lamion Wharf in Bongao Municipality for medical check-up and assistance, before they were brought to Bongao where they were turned over to their respective families.

Authorities were still investigating to determine the cause of the fire.

B/Gen. Romeo Racadio, Joint Task Force Tawi Tawi and 2nd Marine Brigade Commander, lauded the troops for their successful rescue efforts.
